Today is the birthday of Dinamo Tbilisi legendary forward Avtandil (Basa) Ghoghoberidze. Outstanding Georgian footballer was born in 1922. From 432 played matches he scored 160 goals. (This result is a record number of goals and matches in Dinamo). He became bombardier of Soviet championship in 1951 (25 goals). Ghoghoberidze was the member of Gregory Pedotov’s club. He was one of the best attacking midfielders of Georgian and Soviet football history. Avtandil Ghoghoberidze became vice-champion of Soviet championship twice in 1951 and 1953 years and the prizeman for four times (1946, 1947, 1950, 1959). He was the finalist of Crystal Cup in 1946 and 1960 and participant of Helsinki and Rome Olympic games. He appeared among 33 best players for 5 times and scored 1 goal in 6 matches in Soviet national team. In 1961 Avtandil Ghoghoberidze was the head coach of Dinamo Tbilisi but after a car accident he had to leave football. Basa Ghoghoberidze died on November 20, 1980.
