FC Dinamo Tbilisi will compete with Gabala FK on UEFA Europa League second qualifying round. The first leg will be held at Gabala City Stadium and it will start at 19:00. Dinamo Arena will host the second leg match on August 1.
The club was founded under the name of Goy Gol on 3 July 1995, based in Goy Gol. However, in 2005 the team was renamed as Gilan and in 2007 established under name of Gabala. Gabala plays home matches at the Gabala City Stadium that is for 4500 spectators. The main colors of the team are red and black. Gabala is a sport club that unites football, judo, shooting, boxing, karate and taekwondo sections.
Gabala FK won bronze medals in local championship in 2014, 2015 and 2016 years. The next two seasons were more successful as it became vice-champion for two times. As for the last championship, it took the fourth place in the table. Gabala FK has played in Azerbaijan Cup final for 4 times and won it this year for the first time.
The head coach of our rival is 38 years old local football specialist Sanan Gurbanov since 2018 year. He works in the club since 2012 year. For the last several years famous football specialists such as Tony Adams, Dorinel Munteanu, Yuri Semin and Roman Hryhorchuk. During Roman Hryhorchuk our team competed with Gabala FK on UEFA Europa League first qualifying stage. Our team won the first leg match in Tbilisi with Giorgi Papunashvili’s and Jaba Jighauri’s goals-2:1. Our rival won the second leg in Gabala with the score 2:0 and after that it even played on group stage where it competed with Borussia Dortmund, PAOK FC and FC Krasnodar. Gabala FK repeated the same success next year. This time it competed with R.S.C. Anderlecht, AS Saint-Étienne and FSV Mainz.
Two Georgian footballers play in Gabala FK - 24 years old forward Davit Volkovi and 26 years old midfielder Merab Gigauri. Volkovi came to the club in the beginning of the season and scored 2 goals in 13 matches. Gigauri joined Gabala FK some time ago.
